Happy New Year!!
Happy New Year, everyone! I would like to wish everyone a healthy and happy 2013! I hope you all enjoyed the Christmas break and were able to spend time with friends and family. My niece was married on the Saturday after Christmas so I was able to see family that I don't normally see over the holidays!
2013 will also be an exciting year for your fourth grader! We are tackling 2-digit multiplication, long division, and fractions! I am sure the kids will amaze themselves as they conquer these more difficult concepts! We will also be finishing up our solar system unit and moving on to plants and animals.
Don't forget, Catholic Schools Week begins this month. There will be many exciting activities. Please make sure you check the weekly newsletters so you know what your child should be wearing to school that week! I am so thankful that we are able to celebrate our Catholic schools and recognize the very special education that our children are receiving that combines faith with academics - what a wonderful privilege you are providing your children with!!

Exciting Week!
Well, we have finished our first week of IOWA testing. The kids have worked so hard that I am glad we also found time to have some fun! Thursday, we were visited by three 10-day old chickens. Mr. Suchy was kind enough to share his chickens with us and teach us about the chickens and how to care for them. Friday was the annual Jog-A-Thon. God provided us with the perfect weather, overcast, cool and dry!! I was amazed at the endurance of my fourth graders as they ran over 40 laps around the playground! Thank you to all of the parent volunteers, Mrs. Wallace, Mrs. Blanton, Mr. Eory, the PTO and our wonderful D.J.!!

Off to a Great Start!!
The 2012 school year has gotten off to a great start! The fourth graders are getting into the swing of things. They are doing a great job switching between three classrooms everyday! Very impressive!! We are currently learning about matter and had fun trying to melt an ice cube with only our bodies. The kids did a great job in the science lab!! They are reading Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing with Mrs. Ballantyne and are making a commercial! We have started going to specials and are enjoying the little breaks each day.
Keep up the great work, fourth grade!!

Reading Month
During the month of March we did many exciting things to celebrate Reading Month. Several times we had an all-school D.E.A.R. time. It didn't matter where you were or what you were doing, when D.E.A.R. time was announced over the PA we did just that - we dropped everything and read! We also had a pajama day and read in. The kids love wearing their p.j.'s to school and laying on the floor with their friends to read! Last week, was our guest reader week; everyday a different parent came in to share their favorite book with the class. We heard B is for Baseball, SkippyJon Jones, a biography about Beethoven, Diary of a Spider, and St. George and the Dragon. Reading Month ended with an all-school field trip to see The Lorax. The children had a wonderful time and it truly was an heart-warming experience to have the whole school together in one room, clapping and singing and enjoying eachother as a community!
