Star of the Week
Our star last week was Olivia. Olivia is a very cheerful young lady that brightens up our classroom! Some of her favorites are Michael Jackson (we have had many talks about the king of pop!) The movie ET, and soccer. She would like to be an artist when she grows up. Thanks for sharing with us, Olivia!!

Star of the Week
Our star last week was Sharmaye. Sharmaye is new to our school this year and is fitting right in! Some of her favorites are crab meat, baby blue, and her favorite movie is Seventeen Again. Sharmaye would like to be a nurse when she grows up and I am sure she will make a good one because she is caring and very cheerful!! Keep up the good work, Sharmaye!

Kaitlynn is our very first Star of the Week this year! Some of her favorite things are the color blue, pizza, and the Hanna Montanna movie. If she could be an animal, she would be a puppy because she would be adorable! Kaitlynn is new to our school this year and is a wonderful addition to our classroom. Keep up the good work, Kaitlynn!!

Off To A Great Start!!
Hello everyone! Welcome back!! It was a very exciting week and the kids seem ready and willing to get right back into the swing of things (or else they are very good actors & actresses!)
Fourth grade is such an exciting year! The kids get to participate in several activities that they couldn't in the past. This year the kids will be participating in the K of C Spelling Bee, Geography Bee, Student Council, Honor Roll, Altar Serving, and Science Day. WOW! Some great experiences are on the horizon!!
I look forward to seeing all of you at Parent Night, Tuesday, August 31 from 6-7:30. I will be holding a short parent meeting at 6:30 to go over the ABC's of my classroom and answer any questions that you may have.
I look forward to a wonderful year!!

4th Grade Happenings...........
The butterflies have all emerged and are doing well. They seem content in the butterfly house, however, once we have consistently warm weather we will be releasing them.
The field trip to the MJR Theater to see "Oceans" was a success. Although we couldn't walk as I had hoped, it was nice to get out and see a show. The movie explored many creatures of the deep and it was especially interesting to hear more about the whales that we had just read about in this weeks reading story!! We followed the movie up with an ice cream party. You can NEVER go wrong when there is ICE CREAM!!
Enjoy these last few weeks of school. Don't forget we will be having our Ethnic Food Fair on Wednesday, June 2!!

THE BUTTERFLIES ARE COMING!!
THE BUTTERFLIES ARE COMING!!
With the onset of our Life Science Unit comes the timely arrival of our butterfly larvae. We welcomed 5 larvae on April 14. Since that time we have been keeping a daily classroom journal of the changes that we have been observing. It took the larvae about three days to begin forming their chrysalids. The last larvae had finally entered the pupal stage on Thursday. At that time we transferred the chrysalids to the butterfly house. We are now anxiously awaiting the final stage of metamorphosis - THE PAINTED-LADY BUTTERFLY!!
Please be sure to ask your child about the observations we have made in class - such as "What is frass??"
Happy Spring Everyone!

Great Things Are Happening!!!!
I can't believe we are half way through the 3rd quarter already!! "So much time and so little to do--scratch that--reverse it--so much to do and so little time!!" (Willy Wonka)
Our field trip to The Henry Ford was a complete success. Many aspects of history that we have been discussing in class came to life! Presidential history, the Civil War, and African American history were all on display and the kids took it all in. It was quite a thrill being able to board the actual bus that made Rosa Parks an important part of the Civil Rights Movement! Viewing the actual chair that President Lincoln was assassinated in and the limosine in which President Kennedy was shot will be forever etched in our minds. You can view photos from our field trip at http://www.sps4thgrade20092010.shutterfly.com/ .
We have just begun our unit on The Solar System. The students made a scale model of the Solar System in the hallway and it was astronomical (lol)!!
The cereal box reports on the presidents turned out fabulously! The students were quite creative and thought very carefully about the prize inside the box. If you get a chance, stop by and see them in the hallway.

Happy 2010!!!
I hope everyone had a very restful Christmas vacation! It is hard to believe that 2010 is upon us! It seems like only about decade ago we were worried about the Y2K computer glitch! (lol)
Our Christmas party was a lot of fun! The kids did a great job keeping there Secret Santa gift a true secret. All of the kids seemed to really enjoy their gifts and were very polite and thankful!! Thank you to all who helped, especially to Mrs. Hughes and Mrs. Smith that got the ice cream buffet all set up. Thanks also to all of the parents that donated items for our ice cream buffet! I was truly touched by all of your gifts and Christmas cards. Thank you.
On another note....
Double digit multiplication will begin in about a week. Timed tests will be starting up again this week. Please make sure your child is practicing his/her mulitplication facts every night!!! Don't bother quizzing them on the ones they know, stick to the ones that they have to think about. Double digit multiplication is much easier if these facts are down pat!!!
